We often hear about temporary tattoos. The main difference between these and classic tattoos is their duration, which can vary depending on the technique used.
There are various techniques for creating this type of tattoo, such as henna tattoos or so-called “press-on” tattoos. But how do they work?
What are temporary tattoos?
Before getting a tattoo, one of the most common concerns is the permanent nature of the design you choose. Often, the concern is that, despite a tattoo in an area of the body such as the arm, shoulders, or back being interesting, it will remain there forever.
To solve this problem, you can opt for a temporary tattoo, such as henna. The duration of these tattoos depends both on the type of tattoo and how often you wash your skin. In most cases, temporary tattoos are also waterproof.
Temporary henna tattoo
When it comes to temporary tattoos, the first type that comes to mind is henna. The name henna comes from the word “henna,” which is a shrub from whose leaves the colored pigments are extracted.
The use of these powders is common in temporary tattoos but also for coloring dark hair with colors such as red and blonde.
How to create temporary pigments
To create pigments for use in henna tattoos, take the leaves of the henna tree and mix them with hot water after drying them in the sun. At this point, you need to wait a few hours for a thick paste to form.
Once you have obtained the paste, add lemon juice to help the pigments adhere to the skin. Other substances such as oils can also be added.
Application
Henna designs are applied using a special syringe, the tip of which can be used to create the desired design. In other countries, especially in the East, a solution with plastic cones reinforced with wooden sticks is preferred.
Once inserted into the skin, the henna pigments remain for a period ranging from a few days to 2-3 weeks. The duration also depends on the number of times lotions or detergents are applied, as well as the number of showers taken.
Other temporary tattoo techniques
Airbrush tattoos
This is the new frontier of temporary tattoos. As the name suggests, an airbrush is needed to create the design. The airbrush sprays the temporary tattoo onto the skin.
The duration of these tattoos also depends on skin care and varies around ten days.
Press-on tattoos
This type of tattoo is also very popular, especially among young people. To get this tattoo on your skin, simply place the design on the skin and press for a few seconds. To ensure that the design stays in place, it is sometimes necessary to moisten the paper where the tattoo is located.
These tattoos last only a few days, but their life can be extended by limiting direct exposure to the sun.
